Phone rental deposits and upfront payments: what to ask
EzMobile editorial team · Updated
An upfront payment can be a deposit, a first instalment or a fee, and those are not interchangeable. Ask whether it is refundable, credited towards the device and included in the advertised total. Do not assume a “from” monthly price includes it. EzMobile has not confirmed live deposit amounts for its demo catalogue.
Identify the payment
Ask the provider to label each upfront charge and explain its purpose. Find out whether another payment falls due shortly after collection.
A refundable security deposit is different from a non-refundable setup fee. Keep the quote and receipt.
Check refund and cancellation rules
Find out when a refund would be due and what deductions may apply. Ask what happens if the application is declined before collection.
Do not rely on a verbal promise that the deposit will be returned; use the written agreement.
Add it to your budget
An affordable monthly amount can still have an unaffordable upfront cost. Include collection transport and essential accessories.
Never pay into an account from an unsolicited message. Confirm payment instructions using the provider’s official contact details.
