Rent-to-own phone total cost: how to compare the full price

Compare the total amount payable, not only the monthly price. Add all scheduled payments, any deposit, mandatory fees and any final ownership payment, without counting a deposit twice if it is credited. Compare this with an equivalent cash purchase and data costs. EzMobile’s displayed prices are examples, not a verified live quote.
Write down every charge
Ask for the number of payments, payment dates, upfront amount, delivery or collection charges and any compulsory add-ons. Check whether a deposit reduces later payments.
Optional insurance and data belong in your personal budget even if they are not included in the device agreement.
Use a clearly hypothetical example
For illustration only: twelve payments of R250 add up to R3,000. If a separate, non-credited R500 upfront fee is required, the combined amount is R3,500 before any other charges.
