What happens at the end of a rent-to-own phone agreement?

EzMobile editorial team · Updated

End-of-term options depend on the signed agreement. Check whether ownership transfers automatically, requires a final payment or is not included; ask separately about returning or upgrading the phone. Do not assume all providers use the same rules. EzMobile’s demo describes a 12-month journey, but real end-of-term conditions still need confirmation.

Confirm ownership conditions

Ask when legal ownership changes and whether all payments, fees or a purchase option must be settled first. Request written confirmation at the end.

If ownership is not part of the agreement, the total rental cost should not be mistaken for a purchase price.

Understand return or upgrade options

Check return deadlines, device condition requirements and possible damage charges. An upgrade may create a new agreement with a new total cost.

Back up your data and follow the return instructions before removing accounts or resetting the device.

Keep records

Retain receipts and the final settlement or return acknowledgement. Check that scheduled debits stop when the agreement says they should.

If a charge is disputed, contact the provider with your documents before escalating through the appropriate consumer complaint channel.

Common questions
