Declined for a phone contract? What to do next

EzMobile editorial team · Updated

If a phone contract is declined, ask the provider what information can be checked, review your credit report and calculate a realistic budget. Consider a lower-cost prepaid phone or compare rental terms carefully. A decline elsewhere does not establish EzMobile eligibility: the current EzMobile application is a demo, not a real approval decision.

Understand the reason

A decline can involve affordability, payment history, identity information or the provider’s own criteria. Ask whether incorrect or missing information can be corrected.

Obtain your report from an official bureau and check for errors instead of immediately applying to multiple providers.

Compare practical alternatives

A prepaid phone bought outright avoids a new monthly device commitment. Saving or lay-by may work if you can wait, subject to the retailer’s terms.

Rent-to-own or financed devices spread payments but can cost more overall. Compare the full agreement, not just the first instalment.

Keep the budget honest

Include data, transport, existing debts and irregular household expenses. A cheaper device may leave a safer buffer than a premium phone.

If you are under debt review, ask your registered debt counsellor before considering any new monthly agreement.

Common questions

Does this guarantee that I can get a phone?

No. Eligibility, stock, prices and agreement terms must be checked with the provider. EzMobile’s application is currently a demo.

What should I confirm before paying?

Confirm the exact device, full price, payment schedule, warranty and relevant cancellation or return terms in writing.
